The world cup known as the FIFA world cup is a global tournament heavily contested by national men’s team that is governed by an international body known as FIFA. only in 1942 during the second world war when the tournament was not held, lest it has been occurring after every four
years since its inaugural in 1930.
There is a qualification phase where teams play in three years before the main event where only thirty-two teams qualify for the tournament. The host team qualifies automatically.
In the twenty world cup competitions that have been held so far, eight different national teams have won it with Brazil holding the record having won five times. Also, Brazil is the only team that has played in all the tournaments that have been held. Other winners of the competition most times are Germany, and Italy national teams have won four times each. Argentina and Uruguay each has won the title two times while England, France, and Spain have won once each. Two times winners of the title each are Argentina and Uruguay while France, England, and Spain all have won the competition one time each.
The competition worldwide has the highest number of followers worldwide in the sports category and attracts a huge number of viewers globally. The winner of the competition also carry home a huge lump sum of money as it the most precious trophy .
For a country to host the tournament, a bidding procedure is conducted where countries place their bids and the Federation committee that comprises of twenty-two members vote to determine the host. The 2018 hosting rights winners were Russia and the 21st tournament is set to be held in Russia from June 14th to July 15th. This will be the first world cup competition to be held in eastern Europe.
The tournament will involve the thirty two national teams including one automatic host national team and the qualifying thirty one. A total of sixty four matches will be played in different venues that are chosen by FIFA and the final match scheduled to be played in Moscow.
The current holders of the title are Germany and are heavily tasked in the defending it. The host country benefits in many ways during the occurrence of the tournament. Economic growth are some of the benefits as tourism industry is boosted during this period. Job opportunities arises at this period since people from different countries arrives and tend to spend, also cities and towns gain different profile hence leading to their development.
